about
This one was written in Vancouver about 1998-99 and appeared on my first (long out of print) album 'lesser'. It's an acoustic blues tune about life in the big city. I'm including it here because it's about to get re-recorded and electrified in this new project I'm doing through 112 Records.
The guitar is all recorded in one take and is really twangy. There was no mastering done on this recording so the whole thing is pretty raw, but I like it that way.
sometimes my feet hurt sometimes my stomach hurts
sometimes i don't sleep for days
sometimes i sit by the window singing
to the rhythm of the four-way
sometimes i watch the ants on the wall
am i so big or is this place just small
these days ain't nothing to me
except a good landlord and colour tv
vapour trails blend in with the clouds
tide carries the freighters on by
out beyond that the sun meets the sea
and the whole world turns to sky
back behind me old jericho is waiting
for the trumpets to blow
could be wrong might be confused
between the judgement day and last night's news
hey baby i'm glad that you're near
there's a hole in the city not too far from here
i like looking clean when i'm in the machine
doing things only little boys do
i like looking strong when i've done something wrong
hell, i wouldn't mind looking like you
lady down the hall leaves her door open wide
sings all day at night she's crying
outside beneath the general din
you can hear it out there sucking us in
hey baby i'm glad that you're near
there's a hole in the city no too far from here
